So lately there’s been a lot of commotion over Games like Dead Space, Left 4 Dead, and Resident Evil 5. The question is “Which gives you the best ‘horror’ feel?” Left 4 Dead is a fast paced, violent, and pop-out Zombie apocalypse survival game, and is perfect for parties of four. Then we look over to see Dead Space, the overly ambitious game, screaming in our faces. When I rented Dead Space I was reluctant to even open up the box. The disc itself is scary, and the menu screen gave me the chills. Playing that game was so smooth and so scary; it felt like I was watching a horror movie. And then there’s Resident Evil 5, the newest game in the Resident Evil franchise, which shows so much promise it’s almsot giggle inducing.
Dead Space – Dead Space’s HUD is entirely on Isaac’s body. The ammo is projected in a little hologram above his weapon, his life status is located on his back, in a long tube, not that you need it; you can tell Isaac’s condition by how his breathing sounds, what his movement looks like, and how fast he reacts to attacking Necromorphs.

Along with this Dead Space is a beautifully horrifying game. The graphics are amazing, and the voice acting is great. With a game like this, you will find yourself spending an hour in each room you visit, looting all the drawers, blasting all the vents to bits so that a Necromorph won’t sneak up on you. The music is scream inducing, not to mention the many sounds of the Ishimaru. Clanging, doors opening and shutting, a Necromorph crawling through an air vent, muffled screams of the very rare survivor, the insane chatter of voice and video recordings are all things that will make you jump. Renting this game is a thing you should not take lightly, it’s a seriously scary game; but I give it a 9-10. The only bad thing is the camera is so annoying that I wished it was a person, because then I could stab them in the face. Go rent it, but keep all the lights on!

Resident Evil 5 – Resident Evil 5 is a game with a big history behind it. The Resident Evil game and movie series have had much attention in its time, and it just came out with a brand new game, and the producers are working on a new game for the Wii – which actually looks promising. Resident Evil 5 takes its 3rd Person gaming style to a whole new level. Like in Dead Space, you can battle with the zombies, who are countless in their numbers; just hiding in a house for cover while arms rip through the wooden planks protecting you is a ride in itself.

Resident Evil 5 shows that Capcom didn’t miss a thing while they were making it. The graphics are as fine tuned as they can get, the visual effects – like a mob of zombies sprinting in your direction, or zombies on motorcycles throwing chains at you while you blast away at them with your mounted turret – the sounds – like your characters conversing, or zombies screaming in anger – are all amazing! This game made my heart pound while I played it, it was like getting into a fight with a drunkard. I’d give this game a 9-10 as well, it’s a wonderful game and all, but it’s outrageously frustrating when you’re fighting some bosses, and it’s just not long enough for me.

Left 4 Dead – Valve really impressed me this time; along with being a die-hard fan of Valve’s games I found that Left 4 Dead had me coming back for more every day. No matter how many times you play a level it does not get boring because it’s always different. Either your teammates aren’t as smart as the last ones, or a Tank pops up in a very bad place or the Horde over whelms everyone but you, and you’re the only survivor limping towards the Safe Room, or maybe a Smoker is in a very inconspicuous place and you can’t quite get him.

Left 4 Dead is made out to be like a Zombie Apocalypse movie, it has a poster with a title for each of the four original levels. It has a cast; Zoey: the College dropout, horror movie fanatic, girl. Francis: The Gay biker; who thinks the infection is just one huge bar-fight. Bill: The war veteran who loves having something to shoot again. And finally Louis: the plain cubical worker who is glad to be able to start over.
Left 4 Dead not only feels like a good game, it is a good game. It’s fast paced, hilarious at parts and scary at parts. It’s good for parties of four, so bring your friends and blast the hell out of some zombies! Every character feels like a real person, and the environments are perfectly made to match the “Zombie” feel. And now with the Survivor Expansion out there’s even more to do. Valve really did itself good on Left 4 Dead, and I expect there will be even more expansions. I give it a 9-10.
Which is the best game you ask? Well, I think it’s a flat out tie. All of these games have great potential, and an extremely high replay value. However, the only one I’d recommend buying is Left 4 Dead, for its incredible online play. Dead Space is to short to buy, and Resident Evil five is a onetime go, so playing it again would be fun for a little while. So get out there and play these games!

Personally I prefer psycological horror. And to that end games like F.E.A.R are great. But my all time favourite has to be S.T.A.L.K.E.R (Acronyms signify horror?) Shadow of Chernobyl. It has tentacled enemies that can turn invisble. That pretty much sums up my idea of fear.
if i had to pick between those games I’d say dead space, but if i had to pick from any game, i would pick RE 3-4 because of there difficult camera angles and fast bad guys which made you tense and scared to look around the corner
Dead space and fear tend to be the more gut wrenching scary games…Stalker is another good set. If you want another older one, but immensely good go for the Thief games. While they are a bit older, they gave me more chills than the others put together.
The Silent hill games have also been really good for me in the horror department. I haven’t played the last few but the first couple are amazing.
ok i’m the guy from Kongregate.com and i own l4d and l4d2 and res5 and i have to say l4d2 is way scarier that re5 but re5 has more action if ur talking scary, then l4d2 is good. In that game you come across more guys i got grabbed by a smoker then my partner got grabbed by another one. Dead space i’ve never played
